With reports from the American Chemical Society that graphene is 200 times stronger than steel due to the carbon atoms being arranged in two-dimensional sheets, this light material can be used on any device to toughen it up. Also, according to Columbia University, graphene can stretch by 20 percent, making it more flexible than rubber. This is perfect for the emerging trend of wearable technology.


The American Chemical Society has also announced that the material is thin enough to stretch across 28 football fields. This could inspire mobiles devices that could be paper-thin and be folded when not in use. In addition to influencing how devices look, graphene will also assist with battery life. Researchers at Northwestern University constructed a battery consisting of graphene and silicon that lasted a full week on a single charge that took 15 minutes.

Additionally, there is a high potential that graphene could interact with biological systems. This would improve fitness-tracking technology with graphene talking to cells and interacting with various parts of the body.
