Aspire P3

When Microsoft launched a tablet (Surface) with a detachable keyboard, a few critics pointed out that it neither belonged to the tablet or the Ultrabook category. But people seemed to love it and that literally created a whole new segment of gadgets. The latest addition to the category is the Aspire P3 from Acer, which is known as the ‘Ultrabook convertible’. The first impression that you get when you see this device is that it is a Windows 8 tablet that comes with a factory-fitted cover with a keyboard.

Design and Build

Acer Aspire p3 Ultrabook

There is no doubt about the fact that the Aspire P3 can be used as a tablet or an Ultrabook. But Acer could have done a little bit better on its design and build. The cover and the keyboard feel slightly plasticky and although the cover snaps on to the keyboard quite nicely, the overall feel is a little less than premium.

Technical Specifications of Aspire P3

The Aspire P3 can actually compete with some of the high-end Microsoft Surface tablets with its technical specifications. The processer is the Core i5 or i7 3rd generation IvyBridge unit from Intel. The 11.6 inch screen can deliver good-quality images and video at a resolution of 1366 X 768. There is also a stylus in case you don’t want to use your fingers. You get a 2GB or 4GB RAM option. The storage is a choice between 60GB and 120GB SSD. The Intel HD 4000 graphics unit will pump up the on-board graphics capability. There is a 720p front camera and a 5MP rear camera.

The USP of this device is that all these features come at a price of just $799, which is more than affordable. However, will people choose this considering you can get more reputed devices at a slightly higher price? We have to wait to find it out.
